|
|
I have an Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe, chipset: nForce 570
On my pc I have another green sound input hole ontop of my case, there's a special connector for it, I had it in the AAFP slot on my mobo first but it didnt work. There are two connectors on the cable though, an AC'97 and an AZALIA connector, they both didnt work in th AAFP slot. I put the AC'97 plug in the AAFP slot and the AZALIA plug in the slot next to it, which is an ADH slot.
As soon as I plugged the PC back on and checked the connectors, I thought there was a hair between the plugs but then found it it was a thick
line of smoke! I immediatly hit my feed's power switch and now my sound doesnt work anymore. I cant open Windows Volume Control, uninstalling the sound drivers freezes the window and installing sound drivers from my Asus CD BSoD's me.
If I buy a new sound card (my toasted soundcard is integrated in the mobo itself, it's not in a PCI slot) will my sound work again or will I hve to get a new Mobo? All other functions still work, just my sound is fucked.

Just but a new sound card and shove it into PCI. It *should* work.
You might have to disable your onboard one in the BIOS if you use Linux tho.

Well if it's integrated into the mobo, and it got fried, chances are your mobo took some damage as well.. There is a chance that a PCI audio card might fix it, but I really doubt it.

which part did it burn? chip set or the capacitors?
if it only the capacitor then u can solder out the burned capacitor and solder another new 1 on.
if it the chip set then go buy a sound card

wtf, you actually fried your soundcard.
i once tried it with my old one, a signal clipping by 20 dB, amplified almost 200 dB (yes i did unplug my speakers), and it still survived.
Edit: just found out exactly how much i've put through it, it was 8 times equalized 18 dB up, so 144 dB amplification.
