Somehow I doubt that you would have three routers. Would explain how ping failed in three different hops though.

P.S.: Please look up remote exploits or stack overflows before saying having someones IP does nothing. You can do MUCH more than DDoS or DoS.

How would the fact that there USED to be windows service allowing remote code affect remote exploits at all. Installing new things like flash or media player open new security holes, and there are many remote exploit frameworks available.

Because while that service ran on someone's computer you could just send some code in strings to the computer through the right port and you would get the code running...

While I admit it may have gotten more complicated you can still achieve the same effects. You have to use shellcode, ASM, or C++ (preferable other OOP languages usable as well).
