|
|
Ok, Well I posted this in another topic; not sure if anyone read it er' not seeing how there were other questions in the topic to answer. But i'll give more detail in this one...
I've been playing a game (Mythwar if it matters), for over 1.5 years now.. Never had any problems with it before, Until just a few weeks ago - While playing the game, my computer started shutting off randomly. Just today it shut of 3 times on it's own while playing the game. Whenever I turned it back on - It sometimes shut off again without warning or anything. So I waited a few mins before re-trying to turn it on again. While turning on, a black screen with old Courier font (lol) showed up as always saying something about system settings or whatever, then a few seconds after that screen, more white font came up and said something along the lines of:
"We are sorry for your inconvience, We have encountered a problem and had to shut down in order to save your files...This problem might have been caused by (something about programs or files or something)" [Can't really remember the rest of that]..
I then got a list of options to do because of the crash, such as:
•Safe Mode
•Safe Mode Internet (or something like that)
•Safe Mode Windows (or something like that) can't member really..
-Then it showed: "If you had a power failer, please chose the option below"
(Forget what the option was)
-"But if an accident occurred where the computer randomly shut off, or you don't know what happened, chose the option below"
-Think the option was: Turn on Normally
* I went to 'Safe Mode' first and did a virus scan and looked in the Control Panel to check the firewall and that. But since I was in Safe Mode, I didn't have access to change much. After scanning I went back to Normal Mode and deleted/uninstalled the game completely off my computer and re-installed it... I'll put it this way: Re-istalling didn't do any help.
I think i tried all the other options that were given to me, But weren't any help, while playing the game, the computer still persists to shut off.
Well anyways, after all that and computer turned back on after a FEW tries, I did a virus scan, and did a Disk Defragmentation. I started the game up again, a few hours later it's shuts off...
Honestly don't know if it's the game in the first place that's causing the computer to shut off, or just some other programm screwing it up... If you need more detail of this problem, just ask. Thanks.
- Keep in mind that this has been going on for a few weeks now, I'm getting to the point where i'm about to just quit the game. |

| I think the power supply is good... Crashes only happen while playing the game. |

Tantic_Player, does the machine restart itself, or just shutoff dead?
If it restarts automatically, then do this.
Right click on the 'My Computer' icon either on desktop or on the start menu.
Click properties from that list and then click onto the advanced tab.
Where it says 'startup and recovery' click settings to open up the next box.
Untick the box that says 'automatically restart'.
Now when the computer next crashes and tries to restart you should get a screen up with a STOP code or similar. It could give you a BSOD (blue screen of death) or it might be a black. Either way, hope it gives us some info).
If it just switches itself off, it could be be a number of things. Well it could be a number of things anyway. Power issues (maybe PSU, mains supply...unlikely though), overheating CPU or similar, severe windows error, virus/malware etc.
Anyway, do the above and let me know how you get on.
Write down the exact STOP error if you get one. It will begin with 0x and have a long string after it in hex.
Also, it might be a good idea to download and run a little tool called HiJack This, you may have heard of it. If you run that and create a log file, then PM it to me, I wil analyse it and see if there are any obvious things on your system that shouldn't be... like rogue processes or BHO's.

| Sounds like a hardrive error, you should try reinstalling or doing a restore, by doing this you should have no problems... Try acronis. |

How much RAM do you have? It's known for PCs to shut off randomly when too much RAM is being used. It happened to me when I played games on my 512mb PC. Maybe another process that's running is using just enough to go over the top. _________________

To Jason744: I've downloaded RealPlayer like two days ago, But the crashes have been going on for a few weeks already. I've spoken to Mythwar LiveSupport and a GM told me that RealPlayer sometimes interferes with Mythwar - causing it to crash.. I deleted the RealPlayer and un-installed it lastnight. Yet today, I just crashed again while playing the game.
To [Psych]: The computer shuts off and doesn't re-start itself. The Computer Screen just goes to sleep. After it crashed again today, I read the "We are sorry for your uncovenience part" more carefully, It said the crash could have been due to some hardware or programs that have been changed? Can't remember the last time I changed anything though.. I will try to download the HiJack thing later tonight.
To Chase Payne: acronis is a...______..? Where can I get it? Searching it on Google, then installing it (whatever it is/does)? It sounds like a good solution though.
To lolwut94: I have a 512mb PC aswell. But there have been times where I used to run Limewire + Mythwar + AVG at the same time, all it caused was the game to be really laggy, but never caused the computer to shut down. Now I just usually run Mythwar alone. Or Limewire alone to reduce laggage and highten speed.
P.S: Thanks for all your [Edit]:quick: replys, very helpful. |

maybe the cooling system fail, like dust stucked on a fanless heatsink like the AGP/PCI-E chipset.
or just maybe any driver updates screwed it up.
or maybe voltage regualtors failed inside the power supply, caused by over heating. _________________

playing the game requires the graphics card, so you would need power for that...i think. anyways, my cousin had a computer that shutoff randomly cause it overheats too much. if you still have a warranty you should trade it in. _________________

Take it for someone to look at properly. You must have a near-by PC shop. They should do a diagnostic for a cheap price. They'll be able to see (coz its there with them physically) what the most probable cause is.
Its either the PSU... something shorting (I've even seen bent USB ports doing this)... or as was mentioned a driver/voltage/frequency issue (ie. overclocking). |

Yep well explained there payne, I couldn't be arsed
You can't just buy acronis and magically make everythin great again, as it relies on an image/backup.
Also this thread and any other similar thread relies on tried and tested methods or at least good advice. Guessing makes things worse and confuses the person who wants help. |

I had this problem.
Buying a new power supply helped.
Not with that game tho. _________________
