Well I might buy a new computer and im thinking what to buy..
AMD processor
or Intel
Dual Core- Intel- correct?
AMD Athlon X2-AMD- correct?
So now my question is whats better? For performance and speed? Intel or AMD?
Or are they the same thing basically

Intel right now is faster than AMD. Not double speed, but around 1.5 times faster.
Intel also has faster quad cores, even though they solder two dual core dies onto one chip, while AMD has 4 independent cores. Amazingly, Intel still beats the Phenom (Phenom 9600 < Core 2 Quad Q6600), but I think it's due to a software issue or chip design issue.
Intel wins in all areas right now.
Gaming/high processing power needs:
Intel Core 2 Duo
Intel Core 2 Quad
Intel Core 2 Extreme
Overclocked Intel Pentium Dual Core
High-end (5200+ and above, or OC) AMD Athlon 64 X2
AMD Phenom
Low processing power (dual core should do good):
Everything else
Intel Core 2 Duo
Intel Pentium Dual Core
AMD Athlon 64 X2 |

No amd wins in 1 thing I heard, and its in music making. Anyway thats what my dad told me.

I don't think now is the time to buy it, the April 20th price drop is coming up. I highly doubt that AMD would beat Intel in music making. |

what ever u take make sure its AMD 64 or higher or pentium III or higher cause it wont shut down if to hot otherwise

Intel has my vote.
The only reason I see to buy AMD right now is on a super budget system, and that's only because the supporting motherboards are so cheap. |

That's the only reason I chose AMD... for a $400 system.
Then, come around Christmas, I got a new video card, and a new CPU.
When I was taking out the old video card, I accidentally pulled off the PCI-E port (super human strength rawr) and then I needed a new motherboard.
If I hadn't gotten an AMD processor for Christmas, I would have gone for Intel right then and there... SOB, lol.

Atm i have AMD AThlon 3500+ 3.50Ghz.. (rated at that)
works good
