Right, heres the deal -
My old computer crashed big time and now I'm stuck on a rubbish acer with only 256 mb of ram (only 224 of tht available )
My other spec is as such:
3.2 Ghz , Celeron Dual Processor
90 Gb Split hard drive
It runs Direct X 9.0C
Windows Xp
I'm not sure about the graphics or sound card but they seem ok
The Question!
Will my computer lag or crash if I upgrade the ram, and what type and size of ram should I get?
Any replies will be much appreciated as i don't have a clue about computer upgrades
ps: I can't use the ram from my old comp as it's already been thrown away

Hmmm, well if you want it to be pretty fast, I'd go for 1GB Ram, but if you want it to be very good for games and stuff, go for 2GB.
Go here:

Or here:
http://www.ebuyer.com/
I think there pretty good.

I just installed RAM today, 1 GB of RAM for $25
You have to open the computer up and put it in.
Go to youtube and type in how to put in RAM.
If you want to be a gamer, get 2 GB of RAM, and a 512 MB video card.

Chances are it takes DDR2, open it up and check the current RAM stick to be sure. You can also look at the RAM slot, it will be hard to see but it will say the voltage faintly on the socket. If it says 1.8v it's DDR2, and if it says 2.5v it's DDR.
As for how much you should get, for a basic usage machine, I'd say you'd be fine with 1GB. If you want to do any multi-tasking or gaming, definitely go for 2GB.

2GB RAM+Integrated Graphics+CELERON?
= The best thing you can do is run 25 instances of web mail.

Its better than a new PC for gaming.. I don't see why people load their comps and end up paying like $400 for new accesories when you can get a 360 that hooks up to your TV, has a controller, and just is overall better..

My PC connects to my TV and has a controller...
They're completely different concepts for gaming. I myself prefer PC gaming but that's just me. A good PC has far more power and will give far better graphics than a console, as well as the versatility of it being a PC and being able to do other things besides game.
