there are extreme core edition of Q6700, QX6700, it's not "better" or anything. It's just that the multiplier is unlocked. Easier for overclocking if ur mainboard cant handle high fsb(?)
In amd, the unlocked cpus are called black edition.
btw I've Q6600 at 3,0ghz overclocked and didnt change anything. Only the fsb in bios from 266 to 333. Stabile as fck =D

and for only $30 more, you can clock it to 4.0 with the scythe ninja plus B |
Big dreams, big dream. I see you're optimistic, but don't be surprised when your CPU doesn't actually overclock to 4GHz that easily. There are many factors when overclocking a CPU, don't forget that. |
Oh i aint just speakin out of my ass, i got all the correct shit i need to clock that mother fucker to 4.0
you have no faith in me UnLmtD, why ish that? D: |
you don't have all you need, it's the luck of the draw. for all you know, you might not even make it anywhere at all. if it runs at stock, you got what you payed for. granted they tend to OC well, that doesn't mean it will for you, regardless of what other hardware you throw at it.

E8400 can overclock from 3ghz to 3.8ghz @ stock volt.

It's not that, it's just that you seem very optimistic/happy for your new PC, and I don't want that to change just because you didn't succeed at overclocking your CPU to what you wanted.

q6600 @ 3ghz on stock volts ftw.

Wrong. E8400 is almost as good as or even better than Q6600 in every aspect. The most obvious difference is the heat. The E8 series is extremely cool.

Well, other than the Q6600 having about 40% more computing power than the E8400.

You mean for multi-thread programmes? Like file compressor?

Yes. Also modern games, CAD programs, virtualization, A/V editing, multi-tasking in general.
You said it's better or almost better in every aspect, multi-threading is the way of the future. If something's 40% slower, that's not exactly better now is it?

Well, if you compared it to gaming, E8400 is indeed faster.

Gaming isn't everything, and since most games have relatively low CPU demands, if you're in the market for a high end processor it's likely not for gaming, making that irrelevant.
The fact of the matter is the Q6600 can still run any game with ease even if only 2 cores are utilized, making it the better processor even for a primarily gaming rig.

-.-" You really is making me laugh. A Q6600 can be better than a E8400 even if its only using 2 cores? Not a chance.
E8400 is around $50 cheaper than Q6600.

Who said better? If you have to make things up to try to win a debate, it's time to stop trying. I said the Q6600 can run any game with ease without bottlenecking, and I stand by that. I said it would be a better processor for a gaming machine, not that it would perform better, but if it performs similarly in gaming and far better in multi-threaded apps, it's obviously the better choice.

Well, I stand by what I said, too. A E8400 performs much better in gaming without overclocking seeing that its stock frequency is at 3ghz than a Q6600 at stock frequencies.
If bottleneck still the E8400 can do much better with its low temperature. It can go 3.6ghz~3.8ghz easily without increasing vcore and very cool at that too.

Processor A runs games at a certain rate
Processor B runs games just as fast as processor A, but also runs select apps up to 40% faster.
Which CPU is the logical choice here?
Both CPU's run very cool, and overclock exceptionally.
What you're implying is a car that tops out at 50, runs faster if it's on a highway with a speed limit of 100 as opposed to 75.
