So, you have Vista on drive C, and XP on drive D? Insert your XP disk to be sure you still have the Vista partition, if so, try removing the XP partition.

2 solutions
1. reformate ur "vista" partion by using device manager (google), put the hd together. I dont know how to use partion magic, but u can also split and unsplit in device manager
2. u can do dualboot instead!
U had Vista, and installed XP, therefore, Vista will recongnize XP's bootup files, and vista wont bootup
But if u got the vista cd, repair->repair startup files, and XP wont recongize Vista's bootup files. NOW U CAN USE BOTH!!
google for dualboot if u want more info (change boot menu name and such, cuz xp will be named "earlier version of windows" or something, and u can change it to" windows xp")
