Not over $500?
If you want at least a low to mid-range, you're going to have to spend at least $1000~$1500 USD

At that price you're probably better off with something pre-built like a Dell.

Hells naw!

Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161229

DVD Burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151153

Grand Total is about $530.00 (Shipping Included)

The vid card can handle plenty of games, just not really the latest FPS's.
You could probably take out the psu from this list if you wanted to stick at 500, the case comes with a 350w psu, which is what I'm using (mine was also with the case) and I have a 8600GTS anda 2.5GHz AMD (I don't recommend AMD fyi) and it runs fine; people just generally dont like the PSUs that come with cases.

2gb ram...
dvd/cd burner/reader...

pretty nice setup if I do say so myself.

250gb hd... mobo compatible with all the stuff...

and cheetah, don't dells have weird hardware that makes it almost impossible to upgrade?

God. I need a better computer, and that looks like it would do fine..I have $521USD now but I need to pay for my car..which will take that and my next paycheck..I may buy that all if it's still under 600 when I get more money. It's a helluva lot better than prebuilt too..saw some shitty things at walmart..around 550 for something with a nVidia 6100..

If you want, when you get enough money to pay off your car and then get a new computer, and want me to set up a list for you, just PM me.

One Problem : ECS...ECS has been crap to me. I don't get why Fry's Keeps Selling Combos with an ECS Motherboard. My old Pentium 4 has a lot of problems with an ECS Board. Reviews of ECS have been shit. I would rather get a E4300 and a Gigabyte P35-DS3L

It's a little bit more, but it has great ratings, so if he can afford to go with that, I'd definitely approve of it.

The boards great for overclocking as well, the e4300/e4500 is like a e2140/e2160/e2180 just with higher bus speeds. The processor(s) overclock well and should easily go to 3.2ghrz on stock cooling and no voltage adjustments with that board.

You need to build it yourself, if you want it to also have a monitor, good luck. You'll find your CPU to be a Intel Celeron.
