hey I have been trying to find the pointer to an address in a game but whenever I use the "find out what writes to this address", I get an access violation. I would like to know if there is a way to find a pointer using "find out what read/access this pointer".
thx in advance

well you asked for this already in your tombraider post,
you will probably have to wait until tommorow for an answer since its early in the morning for a dutch guy to answer this as darke byte will probably be beddy byes right now,
you can try Tsearch for now and see if that works till you get an answer,,
google tsearch 1.6b
or they got it with other memory scanners here at extralia http://www.extalia.com/sitev2/index.php?sel=equip&cat=scanners
you will probably get told to turn off something in cheat engine settings to fix your cheat engine "write to" problem.
but if access memory is working ,, its the same thing except you usually get less results with the write to scan,, so write to is easier to work out what code you need to use,,
write to uses the same sort of methods
but it cuts out the reads of your address and just shows the writes

have you got admin rights to your computer,
sometimes you get access problems using the debugger if you only got limited user rights

first check what code finder settings you ahve... if you have memory exceptions change it to debug registers... and vice versa.
FYI U a different memory scanner will most likely not solve the problem.

yes I thought he would be a default settings user so the memory exceptions would not be selected and be a problem as debug registers are the default setup,
sometimes fast or hyperscans can cause exceptions,
but a common problem is a user not having admin access rights,
anyway no harm in him checking those setting and seeing if they are not on debug registers,
the other mem scanners like tsearch were suggested just to check whether it is a cheat engine problem or system access problem,
well he got plenty of answers, I havent looked up the error codes yet,
I think he put them in his tombraider post

oh it was not on debug registers then lol
