Text based games, (known as MUDs, Mushes, Moos, BBC's, etc), are 100% server sided. There is nothing going on on your system other then displaying the text sent to you. Depending on how the game stores its data such as your character info, you will not be able to do anything. If they store anything via SQL you could attempt some SQL injection, but other then that, theres nothing on your computer you could do it.

The most you could do for games like this was make macros and bots to play it for you and such.

Care to explain this one? Your client for a text based game does not do any of the routines that increase your money on the game. It simply sends that you are attempting to do something. If the game is not flawed it will have a check for what ever it is that you are doing and find that it can't happen unless certain things are met such as killing a mob thats not there, the game should block something like that from happening.

The most you could do with packets is spam chat and make a bot.

wtf lmfao yes text based or browser based games ARE hackable just depends on which game it is and what things are and arent server sided. when it actually comes down to it every game is hackable just depends on how good you are and how much time your willing to devote to it Smile

MUD's (original text based games) are not hackable. Everything is stored server side. "Clients" can use anything from telnet to "mud clients" which are just beefed up versions of telnet.

The server sends you the information, your client parses it, then it will send back your command. It doesn't tell the server what the result was, it's more or less asking if it can do the command.

If the server doesn't like the command it will barf at you and tell you.

MUD's can be exploited by weak code, though this had nothing to do with client side. As long as a mud is running any decent parsing routine on your input, it's essentially impossible to overflow it's input.
